چکیده

Dislocation bias factors in bcc Fe have been calculated based on atomistic interaction energy maps on three kinds of dislocations, namely the a0/2〈111〉{110} screw, a0/2〈111〉{110} and a0〈100〉{001} edge dislocations. The results show that the dislocation bias is higher for the a0/2〈111〉 edge dislocation than for the a0〈100〉 edge dislocation, even though the latter possesses a larger Burgers vector. This indicates the importance of the dislocation core contribution. For the a0/2〈111〉{110} screw dislocation, a negative dislocation bias has been obtained, which implies a more efficient absorption of vacancies than of SIAs. The effect of coexistence of both edgeand screw dislocations are assessed by a total bias. A possible complementary mechanism for explaining the long swelling incubation time in bcc metals is suggested and discussed.

First principles calculation of anomalous Hall conductivity in ferromagnetic bcc Fe.

We perform a first principles calculation of the anomalous Hall effect in ferromagnetic bcc Fe. Our theory identifies an intrinsic contribution to the anomalous Hall conductivity and relates it to the k-space Berry phase of occupied Bloch states. This dc conductivity has the same origin as the well-known magneto-optical effect, and our result accounts for experimental measurement on Fe crystals...

Constitutive equations for modeling non-Schmid effects in single crystal bcc-Fe at low and ambient temperatures

Constitutive equations are developed for single crystal bcc-Fe at low and ambient temperatures based on the assumption that non-Schmid effects are primarily influential on orientation dependence and tension–compression asymmetry of the initial yield stress. Temperature dependence of the non-Schmid parameters is extracted from a fit to available experimental data. Constitutive models are also de...

Crystal plasticity model for BCC iron atomistically informed by kinetics of correlated kinkpair nucleation on screw dislocation

The mobility of dislocation in body-centered cubic (BCC) metals is controlled by the thermally activated nucleation of kinks along the dislocation core. By employing a recent interatomic potential and the Nudged Elastic Band method, we predict the atomistic saddle-point state of 1=2〈111〉 screw dislocation motion in BCC iron that involves the nucleation of correlated kinkpairs and the resulting ...

Evolution of Internal Crack in BCC Fe under Compressive Loading

A molecular dynamics model has been developed to investigate the evolution of the internal crack of nano scale during heating or compressive loading in BCC Fe. The initial configuration does not contain any pre-existing dislocations. In the case of heating, temperature shows a significant effect on crack evolution and the critical temperature at which the crack healing becomes possible is 673 K...

First-principles Calculation on Core Structures and Peierls Stress of a Screw Dislocation in BCC Iron

Predicting atomistic properties of a dislocation is a first step toward an understanding of plastic behavior of materials, in particular BCC metals. The core structure and Peierls stress of a screw dislocation in BCC iron have been determined using the first-principles calculations based on the density functional theory with the large-scale supercell containing 231 atoms. For the a0/2[111] scre...
